Tour Itinerary

Day 1 – Saigon, Dong Nai and Nam Cat Tien

Distance: Approximately 160 km
Travel Time: Around 5–6 hours with stops
Overnight: Nam Cat Tien

The contrast between Saigon and the countryside becomes apparent within the first few hours of the journey.

We depart at around 7:30 AM and make our way out of Ho Chi Minh City towards Dong Nai. The traffic gradually thins out, the buildings become less frequent and the landscape opens into farmland and small rural communities.

This first day is less about ticking off major attractions and more about seeing southern Vietnam change in front of you.

From City Streets to Rural Vietnam

Around Tan Phu, we take a break at a local café or roadside stop.

Vietnamese coffee, iced milk coffee or freshly pressed sugarcane juice makes a simple but enjoyable introduction to the countryside. Small shops and family businesses around the road offer a glimpse into everyday life far removed from the tourist districts of Saigon.

Back on the road, rice fields and agricultural land begin to dominate the scenery.

Farmers work small plots beside the road, while houses are often surrounded by fruit trees and gardens. The journey provides plenty of opportunities to stop when something catches your attention, whether it is a local market, an interesting landscape or an everyday rural scene.

Through the Rubber Plantations

Dong Nai is one of the important rubber-producing areas of southern Vietnam.

We spend some time in the plantation country, where straight rows of rubber trees create long green corridors through the countryside.

A local stop introduces the basic process of rubber production. Small cuts are made in the bark, allowing latex to flow into collection cups before it is gathered and processed.

It is a simple process, but seeing it in its natural setting gives more meaning to a landscape that might otherwise appear to be just another plantation.

The surrounding countryside also changes with the seasons. During different times of the year, the colour and appearance of the plantations can be quite different.

Arriving at Nam Cat Tien

By late morning, we approach the forested region around Nam Cat Tien.

The agricultural landscape gradually gives way to thicker vegetation and a quieter atmosphere. We cross towards the area around Nam Cat Tien National Park, an important protected forest in southern Vietnam.

Accommodation is arranged at a local lodge, hotel or homestay close to the forest.

After checking in, lunch provides a chance to sample straightforward Vietnamese cooking using fresh local ingredients. Typical dishes may include grilled chicken, vegetables, rice, soup and other regional favourites.

Into the Forest

The afternoon is reserved for discovering the natural side of the region.

For guests interested in walking, an optional guided forest excursion can be arranged. Trails pass beneath tall tropical trees and through areas of dense vegetation where birds, insects and other wildlife can be found.

Nam Cat Tien is known for its biodiversity, although wildlife encounters are naturally unpredictable. The value of the experience is as much about being in the forest as it is about spotting a particular animal.

Bird calls, butterflies, streams and the changing vegetation create a very different atmosphere from the agricultural countryside visited earlier in the day.

Those who prefer a quieter afternoon can simply relax at the accommodation, explore the surrounding village or enjoy the gardens.

After Dark

Once night falls, the forest takes on a completely different character.

Depending on local conditions and availability, an optional evening wildlife excursion may be arranged. Travelling through the forest after dark provides an opportunity to look for nocturnal animals and experience the sounds of the jungle at night.

Sightings are never guaranteed, but the experience itself is memorable. The darkness, distant animal calls and movement in the forest create a completely different impression of Nam Cat Tien.

Back at the accommodation, dinner is served locally.

There is no need for a busy evening. After a day spent travelling through rural areas and forest, the quiet surroundings are part of the experience.

Day 2 – Nam Cat Tien, Central Highlands and Da Lat

Distance: Approximately 200 km
Travel Time: Around 6–7 hours with stops

The second day changes character as soon as we leave Nam Cat Tien.

Instead of continuing through the lowlands, the route begins climbing towards the Central Highlands. The road, vegetation and climate gradually transform as we gain elevation.

We depart after breakfast at around 7:30 AM.

Road 725 into the Highlands

Road 725 provides a scenic connection between the forested lowlands and the highlands around Lam Dong Province.

The route is surrounded by green hills and forest, with occasional open sections revealing distant valleys.

This is one of the sections where the journey itself becomes the attraction. There are no major cities competing for attention; instead, the landscape unfolds through bends, slopes and changing vegetation.

Short stops can be made along the way for photographs and refreshments.

As the elevation increases, the air becomes cooler and the tropical vegetation gradually gives way to the agricultural landscapes associated with the Central Highlands.

Coffee Country Near Bao Loc

The area around Bao Loc and Di Linh is closely connected with Vietnam’s coffee industry.

We stop at a local plantation or small coffee producer to see how coffee is cultivated in the highlands.

Coffee trees are generally grown in organised plots, with farmers managing the plants throughout the year before harvesting the cherries when they mature.

The visit can include an explanation of harvesting, drying and processing methods, depending on the season and the farm.

There is also time to taste locally produced coffee.

For many visitors, this stop provides a useful connection between the plantations seen across the landscape and the Vietnamese coffee culture experienced in cafés throughout the country.

Pongour Waterfall

From the coffee-growing area, we continue towards Pongour Waterfall.

Pongour is particularly impressive because of its broad formation. Rather than falling as one narrow column, the water spreads across a series of natural rock terraces before continuing downstream.

The surrounding forest makes the site feel remote and peaceful.

We allow enough time to walk around the waterfall area, enjoy the views and take photographs before continuing the journey.

The waterfall is also a welcome place to escape the midday heat before heading further into the highlands.

Lunch in Di Linh

Lunch is arranged in the Di Linh area.

Local restaurants here generally serve simple Vietnamese meals based around rice, meat, fish, vegetables and soup. The food is uncomplicated but well suited to a day spent travelling.

After lunch, the route continues towards Da Lat.

The Landscape Around Da Lat

The final section offers another noticeable change.

Pine trees begin appearing more frequently, while vegetable farms, flower gardens and greenhouses spread across the hillsides.

Da Lat’s high elevation gives the area a much cooler climate than the coastal and lowland regions visited earlier in the journey.

The approach to the city is therefore as much a scenic experience as an arrival at a destination.

The road passes through cultivated hills and pine-covered sections before reaching the outskirts of Da Lat.

Arriving in Da Lat

We expect to reach Da Lat at approximately 3:30–5:00 PM, depending on road conditions and the number of stops during the day.

The city feels distinctly different from where the journey began.

Two days earlier, the starting point was the tropical lowlands around Saigon. Along the way, the route has passed through agricultural country, rubber plantations, tropical forest and coffee-growing areas before climbing into the cool highlands.

Da Lat provides the natural conclusion to this change in landscape.

The 2 Day Saigon Da Lat Easy Ride finishes in the city, allowing you to continue with your Da Lat stay or connect with another destination in Vietnam.
