5 Day Saigon Loop Easy Ride – Vietnam Motorbike Tour
Tour Itinerary
Day 1: Saigon – Dong Xoai
Distance: 250 km
Overnight: Hotel in Dong Xoai
Route:
The adventure begins on the outskirts of Saigon as the busy urban landscape gradually gives way to quiet countryside roads and fertile agricultural land. Today’s ride offers an excellent introduction to rural Vietnam, combining history, scenic riding, and authentic local encounters.
Travelling through rubber plantations, farming communities, and forested areas, you’ll experience a side of Vietnam that many visitors never see.
Highlights:
The first major stop is the legendary Cu Chi Tunnels. This vast underground network played a significant role during the Vietnam War and provides a fascinating insight into wartime ingenuity and resilience. Exploring sections of the tunnels offers a deeper understanding of Vietnam’s complex history.
Beyond Cu Chi, the route becomes increasingly scenic as it enters the countryside of Binh Phuoc Province. Vast rubber plantations stretch across the landscape, interspersed with cashew farms and small villages where daily life revolves around agriculture.
Throughout the day, opportunities arise to stop at local markets and roadside cafés where riders can sample regional specialties and interact with local residents.
Arriving in Dong Xoai, you’ll settle into a comfortable hotel and enjoy your first evening in Vietnam’s rural heartland. The relaxed atmosphere and welcoming hospitality make for a memorable start to the journey.
Day 2: Dong Xoai – Buon Ma Thuot
Distance: 200 km
Overnight: Hotel near Dray Sap
Route:
Today’s ride follows sections of the historic Ho Chi Minh Trail as the journey enters the Central Highlands. The roads become more remote, winding through forests, rolling hills, and sparsely populated regions that once played an important role during the Vietnam War.
This is one of the most rewarding riding days of the tour, combining spectacular scenery with rich historical significance.
Highlights:
The legendary Ho Chi Minh Trail remains one of Southeast Asia’s most famous wartime routes. Riding along sections of this historic corridor allows visitors to appreciate both its strategic importance and its extraordinary natural surroundings.
As the route climbs into the Highlands, dense forests and fertile farmland dominate the landscape. The region is home to numerous ethnic minority communities, each with distinct cultures, traditions, and languages. Encounters with local villagers provide valuable insight into life in Vietnam’s highland regions.
The day’s destination is the spectacular Dray Sap Waterfall, one of the most impressive waterfalls in the Central Highlands. Known as the “Smoke Waterfall,” it thunders through a jungle setting surrounded by lush vegetation and scenic walking trails.
Nearby, visitors can also explore the surrounding forest ecosystem and experience the remarkable biodiversity that characterises this part of Vietnam.
Spend the evening surrounded by nature, listening to the sounds of the forest and enjoying the peaceful atmosphere of the Highlands.
Day 3: Buon Ma Thuot – Da Lat
Distance: 180 km
Overnight: Hotel in Da Lat
Route:
Leaving the waterfalls and forests behind, the route heads south through the heart of the Central Highlands. The ride follows scenic mountain roads, coffee-growing regions, and fertile valleys before eventually reaching the cool mountain city of Da Lat.
The changing landscapes make this one of the most visually rewarding days of the entire tour.
Highlights:
A morning visit to Lak Lake provides a peaceful start to the day. Surrounded by rolling hills and traditional villages, Lak Lake is one of Vietnam’s largest natural freshwater lakes and home to the indigenous M’Nong people.
Continuing along Route 27, riders are treated to sweeping views of coffee plantations, pine-covered hills, and mountain scenery. The road itself offers a fantastic riding experience, with gentle curves and spectacular viewpoints throughout the journey.
Several ethnic minority villages can be visited along the route, including communities of the M’Nong, K’Ho, and Ede people. These encounters provide a fascinating glimpse into the cultural diversity of the Central Highlands.
By late afternoon, the tour arrives in Da Lat, Vietnam’s most famous mountain resort town. Established during the French colonial period, Da Lat is renowned for its cool climate, pine forests, lakes, flower gardens, and elegant colonial architecture.
Enjoy a relaxed evening exploring Da Lat’s vibrant cafés, local markets, and charming streets before settling into your hotel.
Day 4: Da Lat – Mui Ne
Distance: 200 km
Overnight: Beachfront Hotel in Mui Ne
Route:
Today’s ride delivers one of Vietnam’s most dramatic geographical transitions. Starting among the cool pine forests of the Highlands, the road gradually descends toward the dry coastal plains of Binh Thuan Province.
The changing scenery creates a remarkable contrast between mountain and coastal environments.
Highlights:
Leaving Da Lat, the route passes through scenic valleys, agricultural regions, and forested landscapes. The fertile Highlands produce many of Vietnam’s vegetables, flowers, coffee, and tea, and numerous farms can be seen throughout the morning ride.
Near Ma Lam, the landscape begins to change dramatically. The lush greenery gradually gives way to drier terrain as the road approaches the coast. Traditional villages and farming communities provide opportunities to observe local life far from major tourist centres.
One of the day’s highlights is visiting the famous White Sand Dunes and Red Sand Dunes. These remarkable natural formations create landscapes that seem more reminiscent of a desert than tropical Vietnam.
As the journey continues, riders pass colourful fishing villages where hundreds of traditional boats line the shoreline. Watching local fishermen return with their daily catch offers an authentic glimpse into coastal life.
Arrive in Mui Ne and enjoy a relaxing evening by the sea. Fresh seafood, ocean breezes, and beautiful sunset views provide the perfect reward after a day of spectacular riding.
Day 5: Mui Ne – Saigon
Distance: 220 km
Finish: Saigon
Route:
The final day follows Vietnam’s scenic southern coastline before returning inland toward Saigon. Combining beautiful ocean views, wartime history, and peaceful countryside roads, the journey provides a fitting conclusion to the adventure.
Highlights:
The morning begins along the coastal road near Mui Ne and Lagi. This section is widely regarded as one of Southern Vietnam’s most scenic riding routes, offering uninterrupted views of beaches, fishing villages, rocky headlands, and the South China Sea.
A stop near Ke Ga Lighthouse provides excellent photo opportunities and stunning coastal panoramas.
Further south, riders follow sections of the historic maritime supply route often associated with the Ho Chi Minh Trail at Sea. During the war, these coastal waters played an important role in supporting military operations throughout southern Vietnam.
As the route approaches Ba Ria Province, visitors have the opportunity to explore the historic Long Tan Battlefield and nearby Nui Dat Base. These locations hold special significance for Australian and New Zealand visitors, commemorating one of the most famous battles involving Australian forces during the Vietnam War.
The final stretch follows pleasant countryside roads back toward Saigon, offering time to reflect on the remarkable diversity of landscapes experienced throughout the tour.
Arrive back in Saigon during the late afternoon, completing an unforgettable motorcycle loop through Southern Vietnam and the Central Highlands.
From wartime history and remote highland roads to ethnic minority cultures, waterfalls, coffee plantations, mountain scenery, coastal villages, and desert-like sand dunes, the Saigon Loop Easy Ride showcases the extraordinary diversity that makes Vietnam one of the world’s most rewarding motorcycle destinations. It is a journey filled with adventure, culture, scenery, and authentic local experiences that will remain long in memory.
