Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Nha Trang – Khanh Vinh – M’Drak – Lak Lake

Distance: Approximately 200 km
Start: 7:30 AM
Overnight: Lak Lake

We leave Nha Trang at around 7:30 AM and head west towards the Central Highlands. The change is noticeable as the coastal landscape gradually gives way to mountain roads, forest and quieter countryside.

Our first stop is around Khanh Vinh at approximately 9:00 AM for a coffee break. From here, the route continues into the mountains and towards Bidoup Nui Ba National Park.

The road becomes more winding as we climb, with forested hills and mountain scenery replacing the busy coastal roads around Nha Trang. This is one of the highlights of the first day’s ride, particularly for travellers who enjoy scenic roads and getting away from the main tourist routes.

We continue through the highlands, making stops along the way to enjoy the views and take photographs.

Around 11:30 AM, we stop at a local Raglai or E De ethnic village. These communities have their own traditions, architecture and way of life, and the visit gives you an opportunity to learn about life in the Central Highlands beyond the usual tourist attractions.

You can see traditional stilt houses and hear about local customs before continuing towards M’Drak.

By around 12:30 PM, we stop for lunch at a local restaurant.

After lunch, the landscape changes again as we continue through the countryside around M’Drak. Coffee plantations become more common, with cultivated hills and agricultural land stretching alongside the road.

Coffee is one of the Central Highlands’ most important agricultural products, and travelling through these plantations gives you a chance to see where much of Vietnam’s coffee is grown.

The afternoon ride continues through quiet rural roads towards Lak Lake.

As we approach the lake, the pace becomes slower and the surroundings more peaceful. Lak Lake is one of the best-known natural landscapes in Dak Lak Province and is closely associated with the M’nong people who have lived in the area for generations.

We arrive at Lak Lake at around 3:30 PM and check into our homestay or hotel.

After some time to relax, we visit a nearby M’nong village at approximately 4:00 PM.

The M’nong are one of the indigenous ethnic groups of the Central Highlands, and the village visit provides a closer look at local traditions, houses and community life. Depending on local conditions, your guide can explain aspects of the community’s traditional beliefs and relationship with the surrounding landscape.

Later in the afternoon, there is an option to take a canoe ride on or around the lake, or visit an elephant conservation project where available.

We then return for dinner, with a traditional highland-style meal around 6:30 PM.

The evening is a chance to relax beside Lak Lake after a full day on the road.

Overnight at Lak Lake.

Day 2: Lak Lake – Central Highlands – Da Lat

Distance: Approximately 160 km
Start: 8:00 AM
Finish: Da Lat around 3:30 PM

The second day begins with breakfast at the homestay. Enjoy coffee, eggs and fresh fruit before saying goodbye to your hosts and getting ready for the next section of the journey.

At around 8:00 AM, we leave Lak Lake and continue west towards Da Lat.

The road climbs gradually as we move into higher country. The scenery changes once again, with mountain roads, pine forests and cooler highland landscapes replacing the warmer countryside around Lak Lake.

Our route includes a stop at Elephant Waterfall, one of the better-known waterfalls in the Da Lat region.

We take some time to explore the area and walk towards the waterfall before continuing the journey. The surrounding rocks, forest and falling water make this a good place to stretch your legs and take photographs.

From the waterfall, we continue towards a local coffee plantation.

Coffee is closely connected with the Central Highlands, and the plantation visit gives you the opportunity to see how coffee is grown and processed locally. Depending on the season, you may see coffee trees at different stages of growth and learn more about the work involved before the beans reach the cup.

Of course, there is also time to enjoy a freshly brewed local coffee.

Around midday, we stop for lunch in a quiet mountain town before continuing towards Da Lat.

The final section of the journey has a distinctly Da Lat feel. The higher altitude brings cooler air, pine-covered hills and intensive agriculture. Along the route, you will see flower farms, strawberry fields and greenhouses supplying produce to markets around southern Vietnam.

Depending on your interests and the day’s timing, we can make an additional stop at a traditional silk factory or a local market.

The silk factory provides an insight into another of the region’s traditional industries, while a local market offers a more everyday view of life in and around Da Lat.

We then continue into Da Lat city.

After two days of travelling from the coast through the Central Highlands, the journey finishes in Da Lat at around 3:30 PM.

The route has taken us from Nha Trang’s coastal environment through mountain forests and ethnic communities to coffee country, Lak Lake and the cooler highlands around Da Lat.

End of the tour in Da Lat.
